Recently had this installed during a kitchen remodel - it arrived with an diffective part and it took almost 2 months to get a replacement. Since the part was replaced, we have had to have it serviced 2 more times as it will not stay in the upright position. I would absolutely NOT recommend this downdraft!!

The unit installation was relatively easy, however it is heavy and takes some effort to move it into position. I had to stand in the cooktop cutout space to handle it. Matching the outlet on the bottom to my existing 6" round duct took a bit of effort to fit it while lowering the unit into position. Better with two people to do this.

While it is a good product, works as advertised and we are happy with performance - a word of caution for using with thick granite countertops - it is very difficult to get a "perfect" fit for support tabs and when unit is lowered does not sit completely flush with countertop

The first unit was returned, because the telescopic vent only came up half way. Second one was installed, but it didn't sit properly on one side which created a gap between the counter top so the technician had to bend the metal piece. The unit has a slight curve in the back and the front so they had to increase the gap between the cooktop so the vent could come up without getting stuck under the cooktop or rub against it. It lost the esthetics. I'm so displeased. I asked the technician to take it back, but the office was closed and he couldn't get the authorization. I haven't used it, because I need to return it, so I can't say how well it works, but I can say that the fan is super loud. The tech said GE products are made that way and I can't accept this excuse. Also, the grease filter is located inside, so there's a huge hap on the top which looks weird.

Product arrived with broken part. GE is unable to get replacement part in shorter than 3 months. So, unless we want to double purchase (but a new one) we have a half-finished kitchen. Not great.
I don't know how it works because we can't install it with broken part.

installation went fine until we tested it and the fan inside the motor was loose and fell out and was scraping against the side so I had to take the cover off put the fan and tighten it down and it worked fine. Other than that I would™™ve been five stars.
